Volkswagen Tayron: The Big German SUV Coming to India Soon
Volkswagen Tayron is the new big SUV that’s getting ready to hit Indian roads. It’s set to replace the Tiguan Allspace and comes with more space, better looks, and newer features. If you’ve been waiting for a proper three-row SUV from VW, this one might just check all the boxes.
Tayron is longer than the Tiguan. It measures around 4.79 metres in length. That gives it a strong road presence. You can pick it with five or seven seats. The third row makes it perfect for families. Fold the seats down and the boot space goes up to 2090 litres. That’s enough for road trips, shopping bags, or even cycles.
Styling that feels premium and bold
Volkswagen has given the Tayron a sharp and modern design. The front gets a new grille and LED Matrix headlamps. A light bar connects the headlights and adds a cool glow at night. The SUV stands tall with large alloy wheels and strong body lines.
Even from the back, the Tayron looks neat. It has slim LED tail-lamps and a clean rear bumper. Some variants spotted during testing had an ‘R’ badge, which hints at sportier trims in the lineup.
Built on the same base as Tiguan and Kodiaq
Tayron rides on VW’s MQB Evo platform. This is the same platform used by other VW group SUVs like the Tiguan, Skoda Kodiaq, and Audi Q3. It’s a modern setup that offers a stable ride and good handling. You get front-wheel drive as standard, and the higher variants may come with all-wheel drive (4MOTION) for better grip.
Engine and performance
In India, Tayron is expected to come with the same 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine that we already see in the Tiguan. It makes around 204 PS and 320 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox. The power delivery is smooth and quick. Great for highways and even city use.
This engine is known for refinement. And the DSG gearbox shifts cleanly without lag. Whether you’re cruising with family or pushing it a bit harder, this combo doesn’t disappoint.
Cabin feels high-tech and roomy
The interior of the Tayron is designed to impress. It gets a large 15-inch touchscreen in the middle and a 10.3-inch digital display in the instrument cluster. The layout is clean with touch controls for climate settings. The AC is three-zone, so each row can set its own temperature.
Seats are well-cushioned and wide. Higher trims might get ventilated front seats and maybe even massage options. A panoramic sunroof is likely on top variants. Ambient lighting adds a premium touch during night drives.
Safety and features
Volkswagen is packing the Tayron with features. You get nine airbags, electronic stability control, ABS, and traction control. A 360-degree camera will make parking this big SUV easier. Blind spot detection, lane assist, and ADAS features are expected to be part of the package.
These systems help with safety on long drives and in city traffic. With competition adding similar tech, Tayron is staying in the game.
Built in India for better pricing
Volkswagen plans to locally assemble the Tayron in Aurangabad. This should help keep prices competitive. The expected price range is around ₹45 to ₹50 lakh (ex-showroom). Launch could happen by the end of 2025.
By assembling it here, VW can control costs and offer more value. That also means easier servicing and quicker availability of parts.
Will it stand out?
Tayron will compete with SUVs like Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian, MG Gloster, and even Toyota Fortuner. What makes it stand out is the German engineering, premium feel, and up-to-date features.
There is also a coupe-style version called Tayron X available in Europe, but India will get the regular Tayron model.
