Xiaomi is moving fast in the EV race. The brand has decided to launch its second electric vehicle, the YU7 SUV, earlier than expected. Originally set for July, the YU7 will now debut by the end of June in China. That’s a big hint that Xiaomi is confident and ready to ride the EV wave.
Building on SU7 Success
This comes right after the huge buzz created by the SU7 Ultra. It grabbed headlines for its record-breaking Nürburgring lap. That moment helped Xiaomi prove it’s serious about electric vehicles. Over 100,000 orders have already been placed for the SU7 in China. Now, Xiaomi is hoping the YU7 builds on that momentum.
The YU7 is shaping up to be a strong rival to the Tesla Model Y. It brings a sleek new design, loads of in-car tech, and promises competitive pricing.
Tech-Loaded and Future-Ready
What makes the YU7 stand out is its tech. It runs on Xiaomi’s HyperOS platform. That means it syncs easily with your phone and smart home devices. Xiaomi claims a 101 kWh battery that offers up to 600 km range under China’s test cycle. Fast charging won’t be a worry either. Thanks to its 800V system, it can charge up really quick.
The YU7 also brings Xiaomi’s own L3-level autonomous driving system. That’s a big step and puts it in the ring with BYD and Nio. Inside, the cabin is clean and spacious, with a minimal look that will appeal to modern buyers.
Xiaomi Eyes EV Leadership
Xiaomi isn’t just playing around. The company has set a bold goal of becoming one of China’s top five EV makers by 2030. The YU7 is a big part of that plan. Electric SUVs are flying off shelves in China, and Xiaomi wants in on that action.
Even though the brand is targeting global markets like Europe and Southeast Asia next, there’s no official word on an India launch yet.
Tough Market, Big Moves
It won’t be easy. Tesla and BYD already have a strong hold in the Chinese market. On top of that, supply chain issues could slow things down. But if Xiaomi gets it right, the YU7 might just become another big disruptor in the EV world.
